The Making of a FrankenViolin - Surgery
I needed access to the inside of the violin to attach all of the wires. After sketching out a few ideas, I decided I needed three openings: one large one to reach into the violin, and two others to install the volume control, equalizer, and battery power source. I then sketched out a final plan to cut out holes in the back of the violin.
Using my Dremel, I cut out the openings carefully and saved all the pieces in case I needed to patch things up. I decided to make a door out of the biggest opening, this way it wouldn’t interfere with my design and I could have easy access to the interior of the violin later.

As I was putting the pieces of the violin together, one of my main struggles was that they didn’t fit perfectly together. I jokingly thought to myself that all the pieces must have been from different kits, and that I was “Frankenstein-ing” my violin together. Hence the name “FrankenViolin.” I was partially inspired by the fact that I’m currently reading Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein in my English class.
